CVG prepares for holiday rush

The Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport is approaching its busiest time of the year. But spokesman Jay Brock says Christmas being on a Thursday could spread out the rush.

“People are probably going to be taking off some of those days," says Brock. "So it is probably going to be Christmas Eve, or probably that Monday as well… going to be a heavy travel day.”

Brock says more passengers flew in and out of CVG this year than last. He credits the increase in carriers and destinations. Brock says passenger traffic was 8 percent higher this Thanksgiving than last. The airport is expecting double digit growth for the December holiday travel season.

“It’s a high stress time for everyone. We want to try to help bring that down a little bit,” Brock says.

TSA security line wait times posted at CVG.

Part of that effort is utilizing the CVG website, where passengers can find a place to park, check flight statuses, get local and destination weather reports, and see security line wait times. Just about a month ago, CVG introduced the TSA line timer. It estimates how long it takes to get through both the TSA’s pre-check line and the general security line.

The airport doesn't have an app, but Brock says the website works well on mobile devices.
