Another Covington building is up for consideration for the National Register of Historic Places. Last year, the Hellman Lumber building was added to the list, now the Kentucky Heritage Council is nominating the Frank Duveneck House and Studio.
Duveneck, a Covington native, was a prolific and internationally known artist who was best known for his portraits. He died in January 1919 and is buried in Covington's Mother of God Cemetery. His work hangs in the Cincinnati Art Museum and in many other galleries, including the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C. and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City.
The artist's two and a half story home on Greenup Street is one of 15 sites in Kentucky approved for consideration by the National Park Service.
Owners of properties on the National Register may qualify for state and federal tax credits for rehabilitation.
A decision is expected within 60 to 90 days.
