Frequent WGUC-FM fill-in and popular local singer Elaine Diehl becomes part of the WGUC-FM (90.9) permanent on-air staff Monday, Nov. 28.

The former WNKU-FM morning host, who has been heard on classical WGUC-FM  and sister station WVXU-FM for more than a year, fills the void left by the departure of evening host and executive producer Mark Perzel.

The Green Township resident also is known from her long, successful career as a vocalist in several local bands, including Elaine and the Biscaynes, the Bromwell-Diehl Band, Lee’s Junction Big Band, and the jazz trio Boutique. She also has been a featured vocalist at the annual Suits That Rock fundraisers for The Carnegie in Covington.

Perzel has continued to record his 6-9 p.m. show after leaving Cincinnati Public Radio in September to be closer to family in North Carolina. He will be heard 6-9 p.m. evenings through Dec. 2 "to allow Elaine a week to settle into her new role," the station announced Monday.

The new WGUC-FM lineup will be:

Brian O'Donnell: 6-11 a.m. (previously from 6 a.m.-noon)

Frank Johnson: 11 a.m.-4 p.m. (previously from noon-6 p.m.)

Elaine Diehl: 4-9 p.m.

"We have appreciated having Elaine on-air with us part time for the last year or so, and we are happy that she will now bring her broadcasting skills to WGUC on a full time basis," said Chris Phelps, vice president of content for WGUC-FM, WVXU-FM and WMUB-FM in the station announcement. "Our listeners have enjoyed hearing Elaine on WGUC and we think they will truly appreciate her regular presence in the evenings as their weekdays wind down."

Said Diehl in the media release: "I really believe this is the job I’ve been preparing for my entire life. Classical music was played a lot in my house growing up – my dad despised rock and roll – and music teachers always exposed us to the great composers and pieces. WGUC has always been a go-to station on my radio and I’m so excited about being part of this Cincinnati musical icon."
