Oktoberfest Zinzinnati

The city's new soccer team is this year's Oktoberfest Zinzinnati Grand Marshall. Team members and Head Coach John Harkes will lead what's billed as the world's largest chicken dance.Oktoberfest Director Cynthia Oxley thinks people will like the new location on Second and Third streets between Elm and Walnut.

"With wider streets and a more spacious venue, Oktoberfest Zinzinnati should be a little less elbow-to-elbow and fork-to-fork."

The festival runs Sept. 16-18. Downtown will be very busy that weekend. The Reds have a four-game home stand that includes a double header on Saturday.

"To keep it simple with parking," says Cincinnati Police Sgt. Greg Lewton, "we would urge you to park south of the event site for the Reds games, there's a lot of parking available there for you, and to park north of the event site for the Oktoberfest itself."

He also encourages people to plan ahead (police are closing the Second Street ramps from I-75 that lead into the event site), spend the entire day Downtown, and to use public transportation like the new Cincinnati Bell Connector streetcar.

"It's easy to hop on. Park up north, even as far up as Findlay Market, and ride it down to the event site. It drops off on Second St. right outside of Howl at the Moon," says Lewton.
