Free jazz concert at downtown Main Library 9/27!

Critically-acclaimed Manhattan saxophonist Daniel Bennett is performing a special "Cincinnati CD Release" at the Cincinnati Public Library (800 Vine Street, Cincinnati, Ohio) on Saturday, September 27th at 2pm. The Daniel Bennett Group is celebrating the release of their newest album, Clockhead Goes to Camp. This special concert will feature a duo, with Daniel Bennett on saxophone and flute, and Nat Janoff on guitar. Daniel Bennett has been hailed as one of the most original and unpredictable musical voices of his generation. Insite Magazine calls Bennett’s music, “refreshingly capricious and trippy.” The Village Voice raves, "saxophonist Daniel Bennett makes hay with an airy approach that's buoyant enough to conjure notions of East African guitar riffs and Steve Reich's pastoral repetition." The Boston Herald describes Bennett's music as "exploratory folk-jazz hybrid."  The Daniel Bennett Group has toured extensively and garnered a broad fan base that is unusual for a modern music ensemble. Time Out New York describes the music as, "hypnotic."  The Daniel Bennett Group has recently shared concert billings with artists like Bill Frisell, Charlie Hunter, Greg Osby, and James Carter.  The band has released five critically-acclaimed albums: A Nation of Bears, The Legend of Bear Thompson, Peace and Stability Among Bears, Live at the Theatre, and Clockhead Goes to Camp.

The Daniel Bennett Group was recently nominated as "Best Jazz Group" in the Hot House Magazine NYC Jazz Contest. The Boston Globe calls Bennett's music, "a mix of jazz, folk, and trance."  Daniel Bennett is also very active in the fertile New York City musical theater scene. Daniel Bennett recently composed the original musical score for the stage adaptation of Frankenstein at the Hudson Guild Theatre in Manhattan. The show was a top pick in the New York Times.  Other recent theater performances include the Off-Broadway musical comedy Legacy Falls and the Off-Broadway revival of Swingtime Canteen at the Cherry Lane Theatre. Daniel Bennett completed his Masters Degree in Saxophone Performance from the prestigious New England Conservatory in 2004.  Daniel Bennett and guitarist Nat Janoff have been close musical collaborators for the last 5 years. Nat Janoff is one of the most active jazz players in the New York City music scene. Nat Janoff has performed with artists like Michael Brecker, Matt Garrison, Kenny Burrell and Dave Samuels. This special concert will unite two progressive musical minds on one stage. Not to be missed!
