Group pushes Congress to raise taxes on the wealthy

Former Hamilton County commissioner David Pepper will join activists from a pro-Obama coalition in Roselawn Saturday to push for an end to Bush-era  tax cuts on those making over $250,000 a year.

It is part of a statewide effort by Ohio Action Now, which spokesman Seth Bringman said is made up of "progressive groups and individuals who support President Obama's re-election," to drum up public support for the president's insistence that the wealthiest two percent of Americans pay more in taxes as part of a Congressional deal to avoid the government falling off the "fiscal cliff" on Jan. 1.

Pepper will join Army veteran Kim Foster and former Obama for America neighborhood team leader Michelle Fischer at the Gospel Coffee Shop at 1745 Section Road in Roselawn at 11:15 a.m. Saturday.

After the event, volunteers will fan out into the surrounding neighborhood to talk to local residents about the issue and ask them to sign postcards that will be sent to members of Congress.

Ohio Action Now is part of a national organization, Action Now, which is conducting similar events around the country.
