HPV Vaccine and Sexual Behavior

The human papillomavirus (HPV), a common sexually transmitted disease that affects more than seven million girls and young women in the US, causes cervical and other genital cancers. Vaccinescan prevent types of HPV responsible for 70% of cervical cancers, but there have been concerns over links between the vaccine and risky sexual behavior. Assistant Chair of Academic Affairs and Faculty Development  at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center and UC Department of Pediatrics Professor Dr. Jessica Kahn, Children’s Hospital Assistant Professor of Pediatrics Dr. Tanya Mullins, and Allison Mayhew, medical student at UC College of Medicine and first author of a just-released HPV study, discuss perceptions and the reality of the vaccine.
