The WVXU News Department presents a special series on the opening of the new Horseshoe Casino, exploring issues like security, parking, development around the area, gambling addiction, and much more.

Look inside Horseshoe Casino

Cincinnati's Horseshoe Casino is on schedule to open next Spring. General Manager Kevin Kline says you should expect to see something unique.

"I think it's unique in terms of the architecture... the openness. It's unique in terms of having a one acre outdoor space connected to your casino that you can program and activate. And unique in that... look at the community that we're in, you've got Over-the-Rhine, Pendleton and Downtown all within the doorstep."

Hiring is underway for table game positions with more than 4300 applications already submitted. Security and operations positions will open up this fall followed by hiring for food service and beverage jobs in late fall or early winter.

Kline anticipates bringing the World Series of Poker tournament to Cincinnati as well.

Cincinnati Police Chief James Craig doesn't see the new casino leading to an increase in crime. He points to his hometown of Detroit as an example...

"I look at downtown Detroit, the safest place in the city. And they opened three casinos, the effect it had on downtown and the increased safety... I see the same thing happening here."

Craig says Cincinnati has already set the tone with Downtown and Over-the-Rhine being safer places. Chief Craig was a guest on Impact Cincinnati Thursday.
