Miami RedHawks Heading To St. Petersburg Bowl

Miami University

Miami University's football team is heading to its first bowl game since 2010. The RedHawks take on Mississippi State Dec. 26 at the St. Petersburg Bowl in Florida.

Head Coach Chuck Martin says it's exciting to face a team from the SEC.

"We're excited about going up against a top-flight program that has top-flight four and five star recruits," says Martin. "I think preseason they were in the top  20. So, we know the challenge but it's still an exciting challenge."

Martin says the RedHawks are in good shape heading into the game with the team at its healthiest all season. He's also excited to get a few extra weeks of practice since the game falls after Christmas.

"Having a later bowl is advantageous for the young kids. We're going to get more young scrimmages in. Everybody talks about the benefits of bowl practices and that's certainly one of them."

He also says the team will have more time for workouts. While the team will likely practice some during finals week, Martin says it's a nice bonus for the student athletes not to have to be traveling that week.

Miami turned in six consecutive wins to become the first team in college football history to start the season oh and six, but finish at six and six.
