With only three new fall TV shows, NBC executives are saving most of their best new programming for January.
NBC this fall will add a Ted Danson-Kristen Bell comedy called "The Good Place" to Thursdays, along with two dramas, "Timeless" from producer Dan Fogelman and "This is Us" from Shawn Ryan ("The Shield," "The Unit," "Lie to Me") and Eric Kripke ("Revolution").
New shows from Tina Fey, Dick Wolf, LeBron James, a "Blacklist" spin-off, and a new John Lithgow comedy will wait until midseason.
BIG MOVES: Two of the most popular NBC dramas will move to new time slots: "Blindspot" to 8 p.m. Wednesday, and "The Blacklist" to 10 p.m. Thursday.
GONERS: Canceled were "Telenovela" with Eva Longoria and Delhi Township native Diana Maria Riva, Vanessa Lachey's "Truth Be Told," "Mysteries of Laura," "The Biggest Loser," "Mr. Robinson," "Night Shift," "Heartbeat," "Heroes Reborn," "The Player," "Game of Silence," "Undateable," "Crowded" and the "Best Time Ever With Neil Patrick Harris" (which wasn't).
MIDSEASON: NBC's long list of midseason replacements include "Great News," a TV news comedy from Tina Fey starring Andrea Martin; "Powerless," a comedy about an insurance adjustor (Vanessa Hudgens) who specializes in damage caused by DC Comics superheroes; "Trial & Error," a mockumentary about a professor (John Lithgow) accused of murder; "Marlon," a parenting comedy loosely inspired by the life of Marlon Wayans; "Chicago Justice," starring Carl Weathers in the fourth Dick Wolf Chicago drama; a spin-off from the James Spader drama called "The Blacklist: Redemption," and "Midnight, Texas," a vampire drama based on a book from Charlaine Harris ("True Blood").
Also renewed for midseason are Jennifer Lopez's "Shades of Blue," “Hollywood Game Night” and “Little Big Shots."
REALITY: After the Rio Summer Olympics, NBC will air a reality road show through Asia starring William Shatner, Henry Winkler, Terry Bradshaw and George Foreman.
For midseason, NBA superstar LeBron James will produce "The Wall," hosted by Chris Hardwick ("@Midnight," "The Talking Dead"); and "The Celebrity Apprentice" will return starring actor and former governor Arnold Schwarzenegger.
SPECIALS: NBC will air two live specials next season: " Hairspray Live!” starring Jennifer Hudson, Martin Short, Derek Hough and Harvey Fierstein, and a rare TV drama, Aaron Sorkin’s “A Few Good Men Live!” NBC ends 2016 with “Dolly Parton’s Christmas of Many Colors: Circle of Love,” the sequel to last year's “Dolly Parton’s Coat of Many Colors."
