Your commute could be getting a makeover over the next four years.

The Ohio Kentucky Indiana Regional Council of Governments is laying out its transportation projects for the 2021-2024 fiscal years. Stakeholders with OKI work to address regional transportation, environmental and economic issues in the Tri-State.

A few of the Tri-State projects include the beginning work on the Western Hills Viaduct, expansion of the Red Bike program and some money to do maintenance and other work on the Brent Spence Bridge.

OKI createda detailed proposal that shows project timelines, how much money has already been committed and what year the work will start.

A total of $2.3 billion of federal, state and local funds will be used to complete the plans.

Despite local governments dealing with furloughs and the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, OKI says it's been business as usual.

Executive Director Mark Policinski says local governments haven't complained about meeting application deadlines for project proposals. But they are having other concerns.

"We have not had any push back," he says. "We have some concerns from some jurisdictions whether or not they'll have (local) match."

He says they'll stay on schedule and address concerns as they come up.

In the fall, surveys will go out to collect data about how the Tri-State gets around town and where people are going. The data will be used to create a traffic demand management study that lets stakeholders know where to invest.

"After you are starting the survey you'll get prompted with questions," OKI Transportation Manager Bob Koehler says. "Were you going to work? How was your trip? Which vehicle did you take if you took a vehicle?"

He says the information will also be used to forecast traffic and identify deficiencies in the Tri-State transportation system.

An earlier version of this article misidentified jurisidcations needing federal match money. Jurisidications have concerns about local match.
