One Local Woman's Journey To Justice

Tyra Patterson was convicted in the 1994 murder of 15-year-old Michelle Lai, even thoughshe did not pull the trigger. The Ohio Justice and Policy Center typically does not pursue cases of wrongful convictions but they took on Patterson's case. On December 25, 2017, she was released from prison after serving 23 years for a crime she did not commit.

During her time behind bars, Patterson worked as a mentor. Now her goal is to help young people avoid pathways to prison. She travels to high schools, colleges and prisons to talk about redemption and justice.

Joining "Cincinnati Edition" to discuss her case is Patterson, now a community outreach strategy specialist; and Executive Director and Attorney at Law David Singleton, both with the Ohio Justice and Policy Center.
