A petition is asking for kids in Cincinnati to be able to remain in their schools for remote learning.

The petition says CPS students have to transfer to the Cincinnati Digital Academy if they want to continue to learn remotely. Jennifer Spring started the petition and said the CDA is not properly staffed for the influx of remote learners.

"I know families who are doing Digital Academy right now who have yet to meet their teachers," Spring said. "We're at midterm. Our midterm progress reports should be in the mail as we speak, and we have got families that have yet to meet a teacher."

On Tuesday, CPS's Board of Education approved a plan for schools to transition to a blended learning modelstarting Oct. 5. Spring said while she loves CPS, the board's handling of school plans has been disheartening.

"There have been so many changes of direction and so many last-minute decisions," Spring said. "It's kind of put everyone in a perpetual state of shock."

Over 800 people have signed the petition. In response, CPS released the following statement:

"We understand there are a significant number of families that prefer to stay in a completely distance learning model at their school. We have also heard from families that are eager to have their child return to face-to-face instruction.  We are actively working through a solution that would allow families to remain in distance learning at their school. We will share this with parents as soon as plans have been finalized."

The board has a public business meeting scheduled for Sept. 30.
