Program Offers Treatment Options Over Jail Time For Low-Level Offenses

BILL RINEHART / WVXU

A local initiative to end the cycle of arrests among low-level criminal offenders has expanded. Law Enforcement Assisted Diversion (LEAD) got its start in Hamilton County in July 2020 with a grant from the U.S. Bureau of Justice Administration. The program trains officers to connect low-level offenders with a treatment case manager instead of taking them to jail.

Now LEAD has expanded to Norwood and Colerain Township. Joining Cincinnati Edition with LEAD are Director of the Office of Reentry and Case Management Supervisor Trina Jackson; Hamilton County Addiction Response Coalition and Program Administrator Meagan Gosney; Screening and Outreach Coordinator Kelsey Richardson; and Case Manager Sheryl Miles.

Listen to Cincinnati Edition live at noon M-F. Audio for this segment will be uploaded after 4 p.m. ET.
