As the global economy grows and the world becomes more interconnected, more students, in the U.S. and in other countries, are taking advantage of international student exchange programs and the opportunity to live and learn about other cultures. And more families are discovering the benefits opening their homes and hosting exchange students.
Joining Cincinnati Edition to discuss intercultural student exchange programs and what to consider before hosting a student or sending your child to another country to study are Jamie Withem, Northern Ohio field director with Youth For Understanding USA, a non-profit organization that offers intercultural exchange programs; Lakota West High School student Alexis Parker, who studied in Japan and now volunteers with Youth For Understanding; Suzanne Bona, host and executive producer of Sunday Baroque, heard Sunday mornings on WGUC, and Nora Braun, an exchange student from Vienna who is staying with Suzanne and her husband while studying at Turpin High School.
