Upcoming jazz shows in Cincinnati in April & May

Cincinnati's got a great jazz scene these days!  Here's a sample of some of the upcoming performances in the area:

4/29 – 8:30pm – The Blue Wisp Big Band at Urban Artifacts in Northside.  New Wednesday night location!

4/30 – International Jazz Day - Jazz events all over the world. 

5/2 – 9pm - Don Braden, internationally acclaimed jazz saxophonist and Cincinnati native at The Greenwich with Phil DeGreg (piano), Art Gore (drums), and Aaron Jacobs (bass). 

5/3 – 4pm - Cincinnati Contemporary Jazz Orchestra will perform Wynton Marsalis' 12-composition masterwork, Big Train.  Jazz at Lincoln Center's Todd Stoll, who flew here to conduct the snowed out March performance, will be back to conduct.  The program also includes Wynton Marsalis' piece, Harriet Tubman, to honor the Freedom Center concert hall's namesake, as well as several works by Duke Ellington.  National Underground Railroad Freedom Center in the Harriet Tubman Theater.

5/7 – Noon-3pm – Free performance at the Clermont County Expo ( Receptions Eastgate) 

5/8 – 7-10pm - Cincinnati Jazz Hall of Fame induction & Fred Hersch concert at NKU’s Greaves Hall.  Reservations required.

5/15 – 8:30pm - The RL Big Band with the Legendary Lynne Scott at Legends Cincinnati.  Legends is located at 3801 Harrison Avenue, 513 662 1222. 

5/16 – 9pm – New York jazz master guitarist Gene Bertoncini with Doug Richeson (bass) and Dane Richeson (percussion) at The Greenwich along with Cincinnati's own Phil DeGreg (piano).

5/17 - For the first time in over a decade, the Christian McBride Trio will be performing in Cincinnati at the Xavier Music Series. The trio also includes pianist Christian Sands and drummer Ulysses Owens, Jr.

5/23 – 6-10pm.  The Warbirds USO Dance at Coney Island’s Moonlight Pavilion.  Call 232-8230 for more information and reservations.  The band dresses in World War II uniforms and play those "I'll Be Seeing You" war tunes and standards of that era.   

6/11-14 – Pete Wagner Band – Newport Italian Festival – various times
