Writer Liza Long talks about having a son with bi-polar disorder and mental healthcare in the US

Liza Long is the mother of a child who has bipolar disorder. When she heard about the school shooting in Newtown, Connecticut, her first thought was, ?"what if my son does that someday?"? She wrote an emotional response to the tragedy, which was published online as ?I Am Adam Lanza'?s Mother.?

Since then she has continued to write, both online and in print, including her book, The Price of Silence: A Mom?s Perspective On Mental Illness. As a mental health advocate, she challenges the flaws in today?'s mental healthcare system, works to end the stigma that surrounds mental health issues, and provides her perspective as a parent of a child with a serious mental illness. She joins us to share her experiences and talk about the current state of mental healthcare.
