People gathered in front of Cincinnati's City Hall for speeches by several high school and college students calling for gun control last year, following the Parkland, Fla., shooting.

Community organizing has become a valuable way for individual residents who see a problem to find their voice and work towards finding a viable solution to that problem.

Most often, organizing takes place at the local level, where residents work together to bring attention to an issue, such as poor public safety, unaffordable housing or limited access to healthcare, and partner with local government leaders and agencies to affect positive change. Sometimes, these local efforts can grow into national movements.

On February 23, The Murray and Agnes Seasongood Good Government Foundation is presenting an all-day forum, The Power of Organizing – Finding you Community's Voice, with prominent local organizers and a keynote address by Karen Hobert Flynn, president of Common Cause.

Joining Cincinnati Edition for a preview of the forum and to discuss the importance of supporting and fostering community organizing efforts are Common Cause President Karen Hobert Flynn; and AltmanNewman President and Executive Secretary of The Murray and Agnes Seasongood Good Government Foundation, David Altman.
