FirstEnergy's history of lobbying; UC's football snub and more top stories

On Cincinnati Edition's weekly news review, local journalists join us to talk about the stories behind the headlines.

FirstEnergy found itself at the center of a massive bribery scheme involving one of Ohio's most powerful politicians. After agreeing to a $230 million settlement with the federal government for a deferred prosecution, the company has worked to make changes. USA Today Network Ohio Bureau reporter Laura Bischoff explores the company's decades-long history in lobbying state lawmakers, and also discusses deadly encounters for between inmates and staff at an Ohio prison.

A rare espionage trial is nearing its end in a federal courthouse in Cincinnati, involving a Chinese intelligence agent and a product made by GE Aviation in Evendale. WCPO I-Team reporter Paula Christian joins us with that.

And the first crack at the college football playoff rankings was released this week, and the undefeated Cincinnati Bearcats are not in the top four. FOX Sports radio host Andy Furman will talk about that.

Listen to Cincinnati Edition live at noon M-F. Audio for this segment will be uploaded after 4 p.m. ET.
