Airbnb is cracking down on what neighbors across Cincinnati call "party houses." The online house sharing company says it's suspending or pulling 23 listings that received complaints or otherwise violated policies on parties and events.

A handyman says he was shot while trying to break up a party at an Airbnb in Cincinnati's Pendleton neighborhood on Aug. 16. The man who rented the Airbnb has come forward to say it was the handyman who fired a gun first, but the handyman's family denied he fired his gun and police agree there's no evidence of that.

Cincinnati City Council Member David Mann is revising his proposal to regulate short-term rentals. These sites, which include Airbnbs, are growing in number and popularity in neighborhoods including Over-the-Rhine. Neighbors have raised concerns about the lack of available housing as more homes are converted to Airbnb rentals and about the noise these units bring to the neighborhood. Advocates say they are great for the economy and neighborhood vitality.

Short-term rentals, including Airbnbs, are popping up all over Cincinnati, particularly in the urban core. For many, they're an asset to the city, boosting the economy and generating jobs and sales tax. But for some neighbors, the growth of Airbnb is unwelcome.
