Richmond, Indiana native Jeff Hamilton is one of the most respected and sought-after drummers in jazz today. He's on the phone with Yemi Oyediran to talk about his June 26 appearance at Walnut Hills' Caffe Vivace with the legendary Blue Wisp Big Band.

Two local musicians who moonlight (or daylight) as bartenders have combined their mixology skills in a new recipe book called Cincinnati Rocktails

The Joe Policastro Trio is bringing their jazz sounds in support of their new release, Nothing Here Belongs, to Caffe Vivace on Friday, April 5th. 

During their conversation, Joe, who's a Cincinnati native, talks about some of the songs on the new cd, what the band's process is working up arrangements, and the chemistry of the band members.  Joe also talks about the club where they play regularly in Chicago, Pops in Champagne.

Caffe Vivace, the coffee shop/jazz club in Walnut Hills, has established a non-profit arm called Jazz Vivace to promote jazz and jazz performances. 

The music continues in Walnut Hills at one of the area's newest jazz venues, Caffe Vivace.

Coffee And Jazz Under One Roof In Walnut Hills

Opened earlier this year, Caffe Vivace in Walnut Hills has two distinct personalities, depending on the time of day. 

This week on "Music Notes", you'll find information about a number of big band concerts, a couple of fall festivals, and an interesting program sponsored by Cincinnati Opera combining yoga with live opera performances.

The Glenn Miller Orchestra is coming to Music Hall's Ballroom and the Blue Wisp Big Band will be performing a tribute memorial with guest jazz drummer Jeff Hamilton.  The Pumpkin Patch Fall Festival's at Town Hall Park this Saturday, and the Cincinnati Celtic Festival at Summit Park in Blue Ash this week. 

Pianist/composer Dan Karlsberg dropped by the WVXU studio Monday, October 1st, to talk with Ron Esposito about his new jazz cd, Tales from the Winter Solstice.  He and the rest of his trio, JD Allen and Tom Buckley, will perform at their cd release party on Sunday afternoon, October 7th at Caffe Vivace starting at 2:30pm.  

This week's musical events include an American Roots series concert by Ray Wylie Hubbard, jazz saxophonist Greg Abate at The Greenwich, and a cd release party with Dan Karlsberg at Caffe Vivace.

Ray Wylie Hubbard will be on Memorial Hall's stage with Arlo McKinley Thursday, October 4th.  Greg Abate will be performing with a local all-star band at The Greenwich Saturday night, October 6th.  And, jazz pianist Dan Karlsberg will have a cd release party at Caffe Vivace Sunday afternoon, October 7th, from 2:30-5:30pm.
