The 2020 Cincinnati Women's March will take place downtown on Saturday, Jan. 18 and will cause some road closures.

After a year off for reasons said to be "practical, not ideological," the Cincinnati Women's March is back. Billing themselves as "peaceful, passionate and progressive," the organizers of the third Cincinnati Women's March are preparing for the Jan. 18 event to  be held at Sawyer Point.

The 2017 Women's March was held in response to the election of Donald Trump as president after a bitter and divisive campaign. On the day after Trump's inauguration, hundreds of thousands of people crowded into the U. S. Capital in protest of the Trump administration and in support of various causes such as women’s and reproductive rights, criminal justice and the rights of immigrants. Millions more marched in cities across the country and around the world in solidarity with the movement.

The Ohio chapter of the Women's March announced Friday that Cincinnati's event had been canceled, but an organizer of the local march says there may be an event this weekend after all. Rashida Manuel says a number of people stepped up after hearing the march was canceled and said they wanted to help.

Plans are underway for the second Cincinnati Women's March scheduled for January 20, 2018 at the Freedom Center. At last year's event thousands of women, men and children crowded together at Washington Park to demand their voices be heard by the new Trump administration.
