An unprecedented one-time "temporary exception" has been made by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to allow movies initially made available via streaming or video on-demand to compete for best picture at next year's Oscars.

It's a long way from Cincinnati TV sports to Fox News Channel's New York headquarters, where Bill Hemmer takes another career step by hosting his own Fox News show starting Monday, Jan. 20.

Hemmer, an Elder High School (1983) and Miami University (1987) alum, debuts Bill Hemmer Reports at 3 p.m. weekdays, taking over the hour that Shepard Smith vacated when he left Fox in October.

Fox News Channel has promoted Bill Hemmer to take over Shepherd Smith's 3 p.m. time slot, and to lead all breaking news coverage on the Fox News Channel.

It's official: WKRC-TV announced the hiring of former ESPN anchor Gary Miller at 7 p.m. Friday. He will start in mid-August, says Jon Lawhead, Sinclair group manager.

"Cincinnati is a big sports town. With our multi-station, multi-platform commitment to everything from high school sports, Reds, Bengals and FC Cincinnati, we think our viewers and users will agree that Gary's experience is a great addition to the team," Lawhead said in the station announcement.

Cincinnati-based E.W. Scripps Company has brought local TV news headlines in 23 Scripps local TV markets to users of Amazon Echo and all Alexa-enabled devices, the company announced Wednesday.
