This I know for sure: I love jazz, and I loved "Miles Ahead."

I don't know if jazz icon Miles Davis really robbed a CBS executive at gunpoint, as depicted in Don Cheadle's movie opening Friday April 15 at the Esquire Theatre in Clifton.

I don't know if Davis (portrayed by Cheadle) and a "Rolling Stone" writer (Ewan McGregor) fired gunshots in a car chase trying to recover a recording tape stolen from Davis's New York City home in 1979.

I do know Davis wanted to keep the recording private. Cheadle, who co-wrote the screenplay, told me that before he started filming here in summer 2014.

The script was once called "Kill The Trumpet Player." I don't know how historically accurate the screenplay is about Davis, a major figure in the bebop, cool jazz and jazz fusion movements who died in 1991 at age 65.

And stars Cheadle and Emayatzy Corinealdi could attend a Cincinnati premiere being planned for March 26, promoters say.

Cheadle directed and starred as jazz icon Miles Davis  with Ewan McGregor (“Star Wars,” “A Million Ways to Die in the West,” “Trainspotting”) as Dave Braden, a “Rolling Stone” reporter.

The trailer for “Miles Ahead” hits all the high notes that director-star Don Cheadle told me about his Miles Davis movie before filming started in July 2014.

I can’t wait to see more, but I will. “Miles Ahead,” Cheadle’s directorial debut, is scheduled to arrive in theaters April 1.

--It’s not a “bio picture,” as many keep calling it.

A year after filming started for “Miles Ahead,” Don Cheadle’s Miles Davis movie, no release date has been set for the film. The International Movie Database just says “2015” for the release date.

Cheadle began his directorial debut filming downtown on July 7, 2014, in front of the Cincinnati Bell building, 209 W. Seventh St., which was portraying CBS headquarters in New York City in 1979.
