The Faux Frenchmen resume their Wednesday night residency at LaPoste in Clifton tonight after a Holiday break at a NEW TIME: 7:30 to 10pm.

Michael Sharfe and Jim Leslie from the jazz ensemble Trio Pi are in the studio with our Frank Johnson to talk about their new CD, Straight Up Swingin’, and the upcoming release party at Washington Platform on January 12.

Yes, folks, it's that time of year for drinks, burritos, friends, family and CHRISTMAS FUN ! And behind it all will be a music machine comprised of STEVE SCHMIDT on Hammond organ, BRAD MYERS, guitar and ANTHONY T. LEE, drums.

And, adding sweet vocals on top, will be EUGENE GOSS and - for the first time at this event - DIXIE KARAS !

This soulful, swinging, ebony/ivory juggernaut will be layin' it down for 3 BIG NIGHTS this year : Thurs.,Fri. and Sat., 12/19, 20 & 21. (Thanks to the Comet for its generosity !)

Stanley Jordan was recently in town and came into our studio for an interview with Frank Johnson where they touched on topics ranging from Katy Perry to Debussy, mathematics to Phil Lesh of the Grateful Dead.

Guitarist Stanley Jordan will present a music seminar entitled "Keys to Optimal Learning for Musicians" at The Blue Wisp Jazz Club on Monday, June 24th at 7pm.  The seminar is open to all people interested in music, regardless of instrument, style or playing ability.

Acclaimed jazz drummer Jeff Hamilton is coming back to downtown’s Blue Wisp Jazz Club on May 2 to play with the DePaul University Jazz Ensemble, a group he recorded a CD with last year. Jeff Hamilton dropped by the studio to talk with Lee Hay to talk about this gig and other projects he’s been working on.

The influential jazz trumpeter Donald Byrd died on Monday, 2/4/13, at the age of 80, his nephew has said.  Alex Bugnon, a jazz pianist, reported his uncle's death on Thursday, though it has yet to be confirmed.  Bugnon wrote on his own Facebook page: "Donald passed away Monday in Delaware, where he lived. His funeral will be held in Detroit sometime next week. I have no more patience for this unnecessary shroud of secrecy placed over his death by certain members of his immediate family. "
