Two of my favorite Bing Crosby holiday films – and maybe yours – air Saturday night. At the same time.

I've seen "White Christmas" with Bing and Rosemary Clooney a zillion times, so I'm setting my DVR for "Going My Way," the feel good movie which won best picture and six more Academy Awards in 1944.

Before we welcome 2016, let’s look back at this year in TV, movies, radio and media from A to Z.

If I wrote this as a TV or movie script, people would say it’s totally unrealistic and unfathomable, that it just couldn’t happen.

But it did.

This is how Mariah Carey ended up making “A Christmas Melody” in Cincinnati in October -- in warp-speed time, just three months! -- so it can premiere 8 p.m. Saturday on the Hallmark Channel.

The first meeting with Carey was in July; the final scene was shot in October. Compare that to Golden Globe nominee “Carol,” which filmed here for two months after six months planning, scouting and pre-production.

Here’s the truly insane truth:

Here’s how Kilgour Elementary School, a Wyoming shop and young Cincinnati area performers will look in Mariah Carey’s “A Christmas Melody” premiering 8 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 19, on the Hallmark Channel.

You can also ask questions about Mariah’s movie  -- and Cate Blanchett’s “Carol,” and other movies recently filmed here – when Kristen Erwin Schlotman from the Greater Cincinnati & Northern Kentucky Film Commission and “A Christmas Melody” choreographer Lea Lachey appear on “Cincinnati Edition” 1 p.m. Tuesday  on 917 WVXU-FM.

Oh Santa! Get ready for Mariah Carey’s Merriest Christmas.

The Grammy-winning singer stars in a new holiday special, “Mariah Carey’s Merriest Christmas,” airing on the Hallmark Channel at 10 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 19, immediately following the premiere of her “A Christmas Melody” movie filmed here in October.

Kenny “Babyface” Edmonds, Emmy-winner Kelsey Grammer (“Frasier”) and Billy Gardell (“Mike & Molly”) will perform in the one-hour special.

“A Christmas Melody” cast members Lacey Chabert, Brennan Elliott and Fina Strazza also will appear to share their “holiday memories and experiences from working with Mariah on-set during production of the movie,” according to the Hallmark Channel release.

CBS Television

Charlie Brown, Rudolph, The Grinch, Frosty, Prancer, White Christmas,” “Miracle on 34th Street,” “A Christmas Story”…. Yep, they’re all here.

Linus and Lucy, Lucy and Desi, and the “Little Drummer Boy” too.

My annual holiday programming guide below is back and bigger than ever -- since it includes Christmas and Hanukkah specials airing on public radio, here at the new home for my Media Beat blog.

Brian Douglas

Brian Douglas, WKRQ-FM’s MVP – most versatile personality – leaves Q102 Friday to take a shot at becoming a full-time photographer.

After moonlighting as the official photographer for “Marauders,” Mariah Carey’s “A Christmas Melody” and Don Cheadle’s “Miles Ahead,” Douglas opened his show at 3 p.m. Thursday by telling listeners his last day is Friday.

“The past 28 years have been the absolute best years of my life. I have been blessed beyond belief to work at Q102 in my hometown of Cincinnati,” said Douglas, who will do some part-time fill-in shifts at Q102, as his schedule permits.

The popular afternoon DJ with Laura Powell had been shifted to mornings with a revolving door of co-hosts before the station hired Jeff Thomas and Jenn Jordan in 2002. Douglas and Powell have been No. 1 in the afternoon Nielsen ratings since 2011 for women ages 25-54, the station's target demographic.
