When it comes to supporting the music scene in the Greater Cincinnati area, few people do it with more conviction than Scott Beseler with The Lodge in Dayton, KY.

This Saturday, Northside Presbyterian Church will be filled with thousands of LPs, EPs, 12-inch, 10-inch and 7-inch vinyl, 45s, 78s, and everything in-between as the 2nd Annual Northside Record Fair, presented by Dome, a local music promotion company and record label, opens its doors.

Like all great moments in history, it all started with a tweet.

Earlier in the week, I was all ready to review a different album (which will probably appear next week) when I received this message:

This moment was just too serendipitous; and I felt compelled to check it out, since they went to the trouble to contact me directly and, honestly, because I can not resist a sick bassline.

I love that the album cover for ShowYrTeeth shows a person immersed in a bathtub of glittering sludge inside a dilapidated room that looks like an abandoned industrial warehouse somewhere.  It is this combination of glitzy and gritty that exemplifies the sound and style of The Kickaways. ShowYrTeeth is a tantalizing mixture of glam with a touch of 'the ultra-violence.'

Van Ackerman from the Cincinnati Arts Association is in the studio with our Jim Stump to preview some of the unique shows coming to the Aronoff Center through the end of the year, including The Priests, Sweet Honey in the Rock, and Mannheim Steamroller.

Lee Hay plays “Amazing Grace,” performed by the Cincinnati Caledonian Pipes and Drums, from their 2006 CD New Beginnings.

ADM: A Delicate Motor

Nov 5, 2013

I have a very love-hate relationship with technology.  On one hand, it is an amazing tool that has revolutionized how we view the world and each other.  It has allowed us to create amazing new things and paved the way for new inventions that can make the world a better, safer and healthier place.

However, it is so dreadfully easy to become dependent upon it that, when it fails, we can find ourselves virtually crippled and sitting in the dark, waiting for the lights to come back on.
