New Orleans

Join us this Saturday evening, March 2nd at 11pm, for a trip down to New Orleans for a Mardi Gras edition of The Blues!  You'll hear from many iconic musicians like Professor Longhair, Dr. John, Beausoleil, Marcia Ball, Irma Thomas, the Neville Brothers, and of course, Cincinnati's own Ricky Nye.

If you love New Orleans as much as I do, you might want to mark your calendar for this year's New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival running from Thursday, April 25th to Sunday, April 28th and the next week, Thursday, May 2nd to Sunday, May 5th.  They've added another day...the first Thursday...this year.

This week, February 6th at 11pm, we're travelling down to New Orleans for a taste of music you might hear during their Mardi Gras celebration!  The show begins with two of my favorites, Lil' Band O' Gold and ReBirth Brass Band, followed by the iconic Professor Longhair and then the Dirty Dozen Brass Band.

If your travel plans include a trip to New Orleans, and you are thinking about imbibing at some of the local taverns, there’s a book that’s perfect for you. David Delegator talks with Allison Alsup, one of the authors behind the new book The French Quarter Drinking Companion. She and her co-authors visited 100 bars in the Big Easy to compile this book, covering the upscale and the hole-in-the-wall establishments.

Cincinnati native Ben Sandmel has studied music and musicians during his career, and now living in New Orleans, he has written about one of the true pioneers of R&B music in his new book Ernie K-Doe: The R&B Emperor of New Orleans. The author was recently a part of the Books by the Banks book festival in Cincinnati, and recently spoke by phone with David Delagator to talk about this interesting artist, best known for his hit Mother in Law.

Bestselling author James Lee Burke is back with another novel in the Dave Robicheaux detective series, Creole Belle, and David Delegator talks with the author about this iconic character and this newest adventure.
