American Factory won the Academy Award for best documentary feature Sunday night. Cincinnati Edition spoke to directors and Yellow Springs residents Julia Reichert and Steve Bognar about their recent Oscar win and the journey to make this critically acclaimed documentary, which profiles the lives of workers inside Fuyao, a Chinese-owned automotive glass factory in Moraine, Ohio.

The latest documentary from Yellow Springs filmmakers Julia Reichert and Steven Bognar has been nominated for an Academy Award.

The film American Factory follows the rebirth and transformation of the former General Motors Assembly plant in Moraine into Chinese-owned Fuyao Glass America.

The headline out of this morning's Oscar nominations could have been newness. There was the arrival of Netflix's two best picture contenders (Marriage Story with six nominations and The Irishman with 10). There was the huge showing for Bong Joon-ho's remarkable Parasite (six nominations) out of South Korea, the extraordinarily rare foreign-language film to make the leap to best picture and the first from South Korea.

Dark Waters, the film shot in Cincinnati a year ago, was snubbed by the 92nd annual Academy Awards, as it was for the Golden Globes.

Todd Phillips' Joker led all films with 11 nominations, with nods for best picture, lead actor (Joaquin Phoenix), director (Phillips), adapted screenplay, cinematography, film editing, sound editing, sound mixing, original score, costume design and makeup.

If “Carol” wins any Academy Awards, it would be a big upset after all the film awards ignoring  the Cate Blanchett-Rooney Mara movie this month.

Blanchett and Mara, who starred in the 1952 love story shot here in 2014, again were shut out at the 22nd Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards Saturday, as “Carol” was at the Golden Globes and Critics Choice awards.

Blanchett was up for best actress; Mara for supporting actress. “Carol” was not nominated for a SAG best picture award. The SAG winners were familiar faces from January’s award circuit:

Another night of Hollywood movie awards, another night of no awards for “Carol.”

“Carol” was shut out at the “21st Annual Critics’ Choice Awards” Sunday, as it was the previous Sunday at the “Golden Globe Awards.”

It’s another bad sign for “Carol” at the Academy Awards on Feb. 28, when the film is nominated in six categories.

The 87th Academy Awards show airs this Sunday with host Neil Patrick Harris, his first time hosting the awards show. There are eight nominees for best picture, a diverse list which includes Selma, American Sniper, The Imitation Game, Birdman, and Boyhood
