Professor Longhair

Join us this Saturday evening, March 2nd at 11pm, for a trip down to New Orleans for a Mardi Gras edition of The Blues!  You'll hear from many iconic musicians like Professor Longhair, Dr. John, Beausoleil, Marcia Ball, Irma Thomas, the Neville Brothers, and of course, Cincinnati's own Ricky Nye.

If you love New Orleans as much as I do, you might want to mark your calendar for this year's New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival running from Thursday, April 25th to Sunday, April 28th and the next week, Thursday, May 2nd to Sunday, May 5th.  They've added another day...the first Thursday...this year.

This week's show at 11pm, Saturday, April 28th, starts off with a little boogie woogie from our own Ricky Nye followed by Beau Jocque & the Zydeco Hi-Rollers, the Jambalaya Cajun Band, and Zachary Richard.  The second set features the Honey Island Swamp Band, Galactic, Dr. John, and the great Louis Armstrong.  The Rebirth Brass Band starts off the third set followed by the legendary Professor Longhair, Dirty Dozen Brass Band, the Pentones and finally Johnny Adams.

The New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival is running from April 27th to May 6th this year.  If you're a music fan and have never been, I'd strongly suggest you add a visit to your bucket list.

This week on The Blues, Saturday, October 21st, at 11pm, you'll hear a conversation with Ben Levin and Ron Esposito recorded in WVXU's studio on Monday, October 16th.  They discuss Ben's new blues cd, "Ben's Blues," which was recorded at Ultrasuede Studio here in Cincinnati.

This week, February 6th at 11pm, we're travelling down to New Orleans for a taste of music you might hear during their Mardi Gras celebration!  The show begins with two of my favorites, Lil' Band O' Gold and ReBirth Brass Band, followed by the iconic Professor Longhair and then the Dirty Dozen Brass Band.
