For most local nursing home facilities, Thanksgiving is the busiest time of year. Family and friends often join elderly residents for meals and visits.

"Typically, from Halloween through New Year's, it seems like a big party on our campus on every level of care," says Megan Ulrich, vice president of marketing and business development at Maple Knoll Communities. "Obviously, again, this year's not going to be that way."

Some time between mid-November and the end of the year, the pace of people's lives traditionally picks up with holiday shopping, decorating and planning meals for crowds of people. But this year, COVID-19, the deadliest virus outbreak in over a century, has derailed many plans.

As we prepare for Thanksgiving one question looms: Should we gather around the table with our extended family?

Narrated by Alec Baldwin, this special uncovers the backstories of six veterans to have built companies, products and brands that have changed the way we live. Some names are familiar and some you will learn about for the first time. The identities are secret until the climax. The stories include those of war heroes like the actress, turned spy, who worked as a double agent for the Union army and the gruff Air Force Veteran who became a soft-spoken national treasure.

Don't be surprised if you see a passenger or two pull out a pie, a casserole or even a whole turkey while being screened at the Cincinnati Northern Kentucky International Airport. TSA has rules for that.

Turkeys away! Thanksgiving week means that it's beginning to look a lot like Christmas on TV again.

Here's my first holiday programming list of the season, for Thanksgiving week. My h-u-g-e Holiday Program Guide for shows Dec. 1-25 posts Sunday, Dec. 1.

Nina Garwood is one of the first in line every year at St. Vincent de Paul's annual Thanksgiving food distribution. When it was all over late Tuesday morning, the local charitable organization would hand out 1,450 turkeys along with all the fixings.

Cut Caesar salad off the menu this week: The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says a multistate E. coli outbreak is underway, and romaine lettuce is to blame.

Thirty-two people are sick, including 13 who were hospitalized; no deaths have been reported. An additional 18 people were sickened in Canada.

Evidence points toward romaine lettuce as the likely source, but the CDC can't get more specific than that.

Cincinnati's annual Thanksgiving Day 10K run will take place throughout Downtown, the Riverfront and Northern Kentucky this Thursday, Nov. 22, impacting vehicle access to some streets and bridges.

For more years than we can count, on this Friday before Thanksgiving NPR Special Correspondent Susan Stamberg has presented her mother-in-law's unconventional recipe for cranberry relish — it's tart, time-tested, terrific for some tasters and terrible for others.

The recipe is controversial — especially if you only like sweet cranberry sauce. Mama Stamberg's has the usual cranberries and sugar, but then you tart it up with onion, sour cream and — wait for it — horseradish.

It's not even Halloween, but the Hallmark Channel is overflowing with Christmas greenery.

The past 10 years have seen an explosion in the scientific study of happiness. The findings so far are complex, and incomplete. But if they could be distilled into one simple prescription for happiness, it would probably be this: Say thank you.

Gratitude, it seems, is a key—perhaps the key—to feeling more satisfied with your life. It improves your relationships with loved ones. It’s even good for your heart.

Last year, more than 100,000 individuals from all 50 states took part in StoryCorps' national education project that empowers high school students to record conversations with a grandparent or another elder over a single holiday weekend. Working with teachers and students, they preserved tens of thousands of priceless intergenerational stories, and at a time when so many feel their voices aren’t - or weren’t - being heard, the project provides a national platform for listening and empathy.

Thanksgiving is the time people all across the country head home to reconnect with family and friends. More people travel to Cincinnati on Thanksgiving weekend than at any other time of the year.

If you're hitting the roads to visit family and friends for Thanksgiving, you won't be alone. Auto club AAA says nearly 46.9 million Americans plan to travel by car or plane during the long holiday weekend. And, the auto club says, nearly 2 million Ohioans will be among them.
