Caribbean Eye Film Series: Screening of Feet in the Sand
The Caribbean is the site of a dynamic new emerging film culture. In the last decade or so, Caribbean films by an exciting new generation of filmmakers have been winning prizes at international film festivals, finding more distribution than ever before, and surprising viewers around the world with stories that are new for international audiences. The films in this series tell stories we may not have not heard, and are set in places we may think we know but may not have really seen, using fresh approaches that will leave viewers with new images of the Caribbean and new ideas to think about.
The film series Caribbean Eye: Auteur Cinema from Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic, which includes both screenings and talks with filmmakers, gives audiences the opportunity to get to know the work of some of the best Puerto Rican and Dominican filmmakers working today.
Feet in the Sand is the new feature film directed by Puerto Rican director Gustavo Ramos Perales, which comes after the success of his first film The Sparring Partner. It centers on the relationship between two immigrants in Puerto Rico, one Dominican and one Cuban, as they consolidate their lives in a new country. Ramos-Perales will be present at the screening.
Caribbean Eye: Auteur Cinema from Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic is part of the programming of the 2024 Fotofocus Biennial. It received major support from Fotofocus, and support from the Faculty Enrichment Center of the University of Cincinnati, Cindependent, and the College of Informatics at Northern Kentucky University.
