The Evolution of Santa Claus and other World Givers
We will start with pre-Christian mythology of a benign and evil gift giver and then into St Nicholauses and their evil helpers. Then we will talk about the divide in Europe that the Protestant Reformation started - with the Christ child and 'fake Nicholauses' taking over from St. Nicholas, and finally into the Thomas Nast and Coca Cola Santas that make up our modern American Santa and how our Santa is more Scandinavian than German, as is generally thought.
