Cincinnati Children's Hospital is announcing a new $2.7 million investment from Cisco to expand technology services at its new building currently under construction at its Burnet campus in Avondale.

The building will offer critical care services for all pediatric ages and a new emergency department. The technology from Cisco will improve how the hospital teaches parents to take care of newborns leaving the neonatal intensive care unit. "How to feed the baby, how to provide basic care for the baby," says Dr. Jim Greenberg, the lead physician for the critical care unit. "There may be technology that accompanies the baby home. That process of teaching is traditionally done at the bedside." He says it enhances the ability to transition newborns home.

He says Children's has upgraded its current buildings but that isn't enough. "Right now, we're taking care of patients that are more complex than we ever imagined 25 years ago," he says.

Jennie Stoll is the mother of a patient. She says on multiple occasions her daughter's surgery has been rescheduled. "That's hard to take. She's a kiddo that has a lot of anxiety going in,' she says. "So, we got to sit up another full night before surgery."

Hospital officials say they met with over 200 families to hear how the new building can improve patient service.
