Cincinnati's ArtWorks puts youth to work creating murals and more around the region

Founded in 1996, ArtWorks is an award-winning non-profit organization that employs and trains local youth and talent to create art and community impact. The most visible ArtWorks projects are the many murals that brighten-up our region. Since the mural program was launched in partnership with the City of Cincinnati in 2007, ArtWorks has hired area youth to paint 68 murals. And after this summer, the total count will be 75 murals located in 36 Cincinnati neighborhoods. Here to talk about the murals, and their many other projects, are Christine Carli, ArtWorks communications manager, and Katrina Jones, an ArtWorks youth apprentice.

In 2005, Maryanne Zeleznik came to 91.7 WVXU from WNKU where she served as News and Public Affairs Director for 20 years. At WVXU she is responsible for all news and public affairs programming, hosts Morning Edition Monday through Friday, and fills in to host Cincinnati Edition. As time allows, she covers daily news, produces local features, and contributes news stories to National Public Radio.
