Mo Better Blues 35th Anniversary Celebration Screening and Speakeasy

See Mo Better Blues with Al West Jr at Woodward Theater on April 14.
Woodward Cinema and The Voice of Black Cincinnati present a 35th-anniversary screening of Spike Lee’s Mo Better Blues (1990). A performance by Cincy jazz performer Al West Jr will precede the film.

The evening’s entertainment will be set up in a speakeasy style, with light bites provided and a custom cocktail for sale at the bar. Dressing in speakeasy style is encouraged, and a prize will be awarded for best dressed!

In Mo Better Blues (1990), financially irresponsible Giant (Spike Lee) manages a jazz group, but his sax player, Shadow (Wesley Snipes), wants to replace him with a better businessman. Bleak (Denzel Washington), the band’s trumpeter, then tries to defend his close pal Giant, leading to a power struggle between the two musicians. Meanwhile, as Bleak tries to straighten things out with his bandmates and manager, he must choose to be with either sweet teacher Indigo (Joie Lee) or sultry singer Clarke (Cynda Williams).

Mo Better Blues is film 1 of 3 in Woodward Cinema’s CINEsthesia series.
