Cityfolk cancels upcoming season, festival

Cityfolk

One of Dayton's biggest arts organizations is canceling its upcoming season. Cityfolk says several years of financial challenges led to the decision to forgo the 2013-2014 season and the 2014 festival.

The organization says low attendance at this year's festival, and declining ticket sales and sponsorships were also factors. Cityfolk is pulling out of a partnership deal with the Dayton Art Institute as well.

In a release, Cityfolk Board President Matt Dunn says, "Even prior to last year's festival, we were realizing declining ticket sales, sponsorships, and government support. The rain that devastated last year's festival put us in a deeper hole and sped up our process for making changes, including having a fundraising campaign, while also letting go of some staff."

The group was founded in 1980 to present ethnic and traditional folk arts.
