Preventing Foodborne Illnesses & Safe Food Storage And Preparation

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, one in six Americans falls ill from consuming contaminated foods or beverages, which are often raw, every year. 

There are more than 250 foodborne diseases caused by bacteria, viruses, parasites, toxins or chemicals. Sometimes referred to as the stomach flu,? the resulting illnesses cause nausea, diarrhea, vomiting and fatigue.

Joining us to talk about foodborne illnesses, the most common types of food outbreaks and recalls, and food safety measures are Cincinnati Health Department Registered Environmental Health Specialist, Darius Porter; and professor emeritus in the Division of Digestive Diseases at the University Of Cincinnati College of Medicine, Dr. Ralph Giannella.
