Coronavirus
As a new strain of coronavirus (COVID-19) swept through the world in 2020, preparedness plans, masking policies and more public policy changed just as quickly. WVXU has covered the pandemic's impact on the Tri-State from the very beginning, when on March 3, 2020, Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine barred spectators from attending the Arnold Sports Festival in Columbus over concerns about the virus, even though Ohio had yet to confirm a single case of COVID-19.

Hospital, health care systems and their staff have been working around the clock across the country on a variety of coronavirus issues, according to the American Hospital Association.

In addition to identifying, isolating and treating patients, they are also working with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on how to best preserve existing supplies of personal protective equipment like masks, face shields and gowns due to concerns about limited supplies.

In a prerecorded interview, Cincinnati Edition speaks with Nancy Foster, vice president for quality and patient safety at the American Hospital Association. Ms. Foster talks about the efforts to protect health care workers to ensure they have the personal protective equipment, training and support they need to care for patients.

Listen to Cincinnati Edition live at noon M-F. Audio for this segment will be uploaded after 4 p.m. ET.
