Friday Politics Chat: Loaded Ballot Coming In March for Local Democrats

WVXU-FM

It's almost impossible to say if the Democratic presidential nomination will be sewed up by the time Ohio's primary election comes around on March 17. But, even if is, Democrats in Hamilton County will have plenty of contested local races to decide: a county commission battle between Alicia Reece and Connie Pillich; a hotly contested fight between Sheriff Jim Neil and one of his former top administrators, Charmain McGuffey; and a race between former judge Fanon Rucker and former federal prosecutor Gabe Davis for county prosecutor.

WVXU's senior political analyst Howard Wilkinson told News Director Maryanne Zeleznik that this is what happens when one political party takes over from the other as the dominent party. What they need to do, Wilkinson said, is take care that the primary battles don't end in beaten-up candidates running against Republicans in the November general election.

Howard Wilkinson is in his 50th year of covering politics on the local, state and national levels.
