Coronavirus
As a new strain of coronavirus (COVID-19) swept through the world in 2020, preparedness plans, masking policies and more public policy changed just as quickly. WVXU has covered the pandemic's impact on the Tri-State from the very beginning, when on March 3, 2020, Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine barred spectators from attending the Arnold Sports Festival in Columbus over concerns about the virus, even though Ohio had yet to confirm a single case of COVID-19.

With many customers furloughed, laid off, self-isolated or quarantined as a result of the spread of coronavirus, regional energy provider Duke Energy announced it is suspending disconnections for non-payment.

According to a statement, starting March 13, power to customers will no longer be disconnected in order to give customers experiencing financial hardship extra time to make payments. ?The company says it will continue to read meters and send bills. They also added that they hope that customers will pay what they can to avoid building up a large balance that customers will have to pay at later time. This new policy applies to all home and business accounts in Florida, Indiana, Kentucky, North Carolina, Ohio and South Carolina.

Joining Cincinnati Edition to discuss is Duke Energy of Ohio & Kentucky Corporate Communications Manager, Sally Thelen.

Listen to Cincinnati Edition live at noon M-F. Audio for this segment will be uploaded after 4 p.m. ET.
