With many customers furloughed, laid off, self-isolated or quarantined as a result of the spread of coronavirus, regional energy provider Duke Energy announced it is suspending disconnections for non-payment.
According to a statement, starting March 13, power to customers will no longer be disconnected in order to give customers experiencing financial hardship extra time to make payments. The company says it will continue to read meters and send bills. They also added that they hope that customers will pay what they can to avoid building up a large balance that customers will have to pay at later time. This new policy applies to all home and business accounts in Florida, Indiana, Kentucky, North Carolina, Ohio and South Carolina.
