Holiday Weekend Road Closures To Know

With AAA expecting Thanksgiving 2019 to be the busiest holiday travel season since 2005, local commuters should also expect to hit some additional road blocks thanks to street closures around Downtown Cincinnati this Thursday and Friday.

Thursday Closures 

The annual Thanksgiving Day Run takes place on Thursday, Nov. 28, and the following streets will close between 8 a.m. and noon: 

  • All access to Second Street will close at 7 a.m.
  • Vine Street between Freedom Way and Liberty Street
  • Third Street between Walnut Street and Race Street
  • Fourth Street between Walnut Street and Race Street
  • Fifth Street between Race Street and Walnut Street
  • Sixth Street between Walnut Street and Race Street
  • Seventh Street between Race Street and Walnut Street
  • Eighth Street between Walnut Street and Race Street
  • Ninth Street between Walnut Street and Race Street
  • Court Street between Walnut Street and Race Street
  • Central Parkway between Race Street and Walnut Street
  • Twelfth Street between Race Street and Walnut Street
  • Thirteenth Street between Walnut Street and Race Street
  • Fourteenth Street between Race Street and Walnut Street
  • Liberty Street eastbound between Race Street and Reading Road
  • Reading Road between Liberty Street and Eggleston Avenue
  • Eggleston Avenue between Reading Road and E Pete Rose Way
  • E. Pete Rose Way between Broadway and Eggleston Avenue
  • Mehring Way between Johnny Bench Way and E. Pete Rose Way
  • Elm Street between Second Street and Mehring Way (closes at 7 a.m.)
  • Race Street south of Third Street (closes at 7 a.m.)
  • Freedom Way between Walnut Street and Elm Street (closes at 7 a.m.)
  • Taylor Southgate Bridge
  • Clay Wade Bailey Bridge

Friday Closures 

After the holiday, Light Up the Square will be held on Friday, Nov. 29, beginning at 6 p.m. Worth noting is that Fifth Street will close as early as Wednesday, Nov. 27, at 6 p.m., and remain closed through the duration of Friday's event. 

Other closures start Friday at 6 p.m. and will remain closed until approximately midnight: 

  • Fifth Street between Race Street and Vine Street
  • Vine Street between Fourth Street and Sixth Street (access to the Westin Hotel will be maintained)

All parking on the above street segments will be prohibited. The Fountain Square garage will be open but can only be accessed from the Walnut Street entrance. 
Metro service that uses the area will be detoured around the closure. Riders should follow instructions posted at the stop.
