Pro-democracy students hold U.S. flags and sing the Star-Spangled Banner at the University of Hong Kong, Friday, Sept. 20, 2019, as they demand the U.S. Congress to pass the proposed U.S. Act of the Hong Kong Human Rights and Democracy.

The University of Dayton is hosting a conference to address the high-risk threats to human rights and how they are presenting themselves with unprecedented urgency.

The Human Rights Center's Social Practice of Human Rights Conference on October 1-4 will bring together internationally known speakers to explore the future of human rights as it relates to social, economic and environmental transformations in society.

The conference's keynote speakers include #BlackLivesMatter co-founder Opal Tometi, author and New York Times contributing opinion writer Zeynep Tufekci, and MSNBC political analyst Anand Giridharadas. Their addresses are free and open to the public.

Joining Cincinnati Edition to discuss the conference with the University of Dayton Human Rights Center are Executive Director Shelley Inglis; Partnerships Coordinator and Department of Political Science Lecturer Youssef Farhat; and Rhize Founder and Executive Director Erin Mazursky. She is one of the plenary speakers for the conference.

Listen to Cincinnati Edition live at noon M-F. Audio for this segment will be uploaded after 4 p.m. ET.
