Biographer ARNOLD RAMPERSAD is professor of Literature at rinceton. His two-volume biography of writer Langston Hughes was praised by critics as one of the best biographies of a black American writer. RAMPERSAD also is the author of a biography of Richard Wright and co-author of tennis star Arthur Ashe's memoir, "Days of Grace.
