NPR's Jennifer Ludden reports that the Catholic Church is a dominant influence in Zaire and is the leading opposition to the regime of Mobutu Sese Seko. And one of the leaders of the Catholic Church in Zaire is the person most often suggested as a successor to Mubutu as head of state.
