The Cincinnati Museum Center's Children's Museum is alive again with the sound of little voices. It reopened Friday morning after closing in November as part of the Union Terminal restoration.
Liz Morris and her son, Max, were among the first back inside the building. "It's different when you first walk in but it's really cool," Morris says. "Max loves it here so we love to come and play in the Children's Museum and play in the water."
The Children's Museum was supposed to remain open during reconstruction, however, it closed unexpectedly in early November. Water damage to the steel support beams above the Children's Museum was more extensive than previously thought.
"As portions of the Children's Museum become an active construction zone, Cincinnati Museum Center made the decision to close the area," CEO Elizabeth Pierce said at the time.
Pierce was jubilant Friday as she and a dozen or so small children cut a ribbon reopening the space. "We are so excited to welcome the community back into this building where people have made memories for the last 85 years, and because of the outstanding work of our construction and design teams and historic preservation experts, we will be able to live in this building and make memories in this building for generations to come."
The entire museum is scheduled to reopen this November.
