Cincinnati's Pendleton neighborhood.

A handyman says he was shot while trying to break up a party at an Airbnb in Cincinnati's Pendleton neighborhood on Aug. 16. The man who rented the Airbnb has come forward to say it was the handyman who fired a gun first, but the handyman's family denied he fired his gun and police agree there's no evidence of that.

Meanwhile, Cincinnati City Council Member David Mann says the city needs to take a closer look at Airbnb owners. Mann is proposing a motion asking the administration to review the rules governing short-term rentals to make sure they're being followed and whether the rules go far enough to protect neighborhoods.

But Airbnb owners say they are being unfairly targeted and that the city needs to do more to shut down nuisance parties. Airbnb for its part announced it will pursue legal claims and damages against the booking guest who held an unauthorized party on Aug. 16 that lead to the shooting of the handyman.

Joining Cincinnati Edition to discuss unauthorized Airbnb parties is Cincinnati City Council Member David MannKeller Williams Realtor Alek Lucke, he owns the operating company that operates the building where the shooting happened; and Airbnb operator and Cincinnati School Board Vice President Ryan Messer.

Listen to Cincinnati Edition live at noon M-F. Audio for this segment will be uploaded after 4 p.m. ET.
