How Much Training Do Ohio Teachers Need To Carry Guns?

In the state of Ohio, teachers and other staff members can carry firearms on school grounds by meeting certain training requirements. Now a bill working its way through the legislature would require school staff to get the eight hours of training needed for a concealed carry license. More than 130 people have voiced their opposition to House Bill 99, introduced by Rep. Thomas Hall (R-Middletown).

Ohio Democrats argue the bill offers insufficient training, has no notification requirement for alerting parents there are guns on school property, and has no safe storage requirement for firearms. Hall says he is listening to concerns and is open to further discussions.

Joining Cincinnati Edition to discuss House Bill 99 are State Representative Thomas Hall(R-Middletown); and State Representative David Leland (D-Columbus).
