Adventurous Travel Ideas From Atlas Obscura

amazon.com

In 2009, Dylan Thuras and Joshua Foer created Atlasobscura.com, an online resource for explorers, those who like to seek out the curious and unusual.

Today the site has more than five million unique visitors each month and contains 10,000 entries, including the Glowworm Caves of New Zealand, the self-mummifying monks of Japan and the fire that?'s been burning in the Turkmenistan desert for 40 years.

Atlas Obscura recently published its first book, Atlas Obscura: An Explorer's Guide to the World's Hidden Wonders, which features 700 of the strangest and most curious places in the world.

Dylan Thuras joins us to discuss the new book, and how the Atlas Obscura team hears about and tracks down the wonders of the world.

Signed copies of Atlas Obscura are available at Joseph-Beth Booksellers in Rookwood Commons.
