Coronavirus
As a new strain of coronavirus (COVID-19) swept through the world in 2020, preparedness plans, masking policies and more public policy changed just as quickly. WVXU has covered the pandemic's impact on the Tri-State from the very beginning, when on March 3, 2020, Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine barred spectators from attending the Arnold Sports Festival in Columbus over concerns about the virus, even though Ohio had yet to confirm a single case of COVID-19.

The population of the Kenton County Detention Center in Covington was reduced over the past two weeks from 715 to 483.

Most of the released inmates are now clients of the Covington-based Life Learning Center, an organization that aims to help people get their lives back on track.

A partnership between the jail, the center and the Kenton County Commonwealth's Attorney's Office was announced on Friday.

The immediate goal of reducing the inmate population is to slow the spread of COVID-19.

Joining Cincinnati Edition to talk about the program are Kenton County Commonwealth's Attorney Rob Sanders and Life Learning Center President Alecia Webb-Edgington.

Listen to Cincinnati Edition live at noon M-F. Audio for this segment will be uploaded after 4 p.m. ET.
